So pleased 😁 , lovely speakers , really full sound . They have even convinced my wife , she didn’t think that speakers would make that much difference.
When I’d fitted them and put on some of her favourite music, she was wowed ! They sound so nice really clear and detailed.
Wharfdale may have sold manufacturing to China , but they take random samples and test them to keep quality as it should be.
So pleased I have a set and yes they are still worth more than they cost , in fact you’d be hard pressed to find better sounding speakers for 3 times the money.

This review will have to be split into 2.

    Wharfedale 9.1 sound/overall build quality:

The 9.1s are definitely worth the price, they have incredible detail and imaging, the voice do noticeable sit a little behind the highs (drums in my music), but couldn’t tell until i compared with the jamo e610s but the e610s aren’t as crisp on the highs, but the voice and bass sit a little more forfront in sound, so its not bad, it just depends what you’re using them for, but the e610s are twice the price, but combined they make a very good pair, crisp detailed highs from the 9.1s and forefront mids/vocals from the jamos. But the jamos are bookshelf speakers, where as the 9.1s are studio monitor speakers, so different design/use kinda.

That being said i couldnt tell when i just had the 9.1s, they have some amount of power in them! They really sing, they have very nice and clear bass, although not as strong as more expensive ones. I couldn’t tell until i had a comparison tbh, you really feel the detail and power in these speakers, and can notice the 22khz top end.

    The current 9.1 build quality:

Now thats out the way, the reason why i can’T recommend these is because they are made in China, they are not the original 9.1s. when they arrived one of the tweeters was dodgy, it would create a vibration noise on high frequencies, but i was actually half expecting them to be faulty because i was warned by a friend and i saw a review saying something about a loose connection inside, creating the vibration and he fixed it easily, but having no idea about speaker build’s and having warranty left, i gave in and sent them back. Ive also seen countless reviews about people talking about how the driver has ripped, but i haven’t pushed them hard enough for that..
BUT about audiovisual online, and they were actually amazing, these guys do customer service during a pandemic right, swift replys, no messing around, got my speaker fixed and got it back a few days ago, and they actually sound amazing, but theres no telling how long they’ll last, i doubt they’ll last a few years tbh, but theres no telling.

So overall these speakers are incredible, if you can find some originals second hand don’t be afraid, quality built speakers last as long as they’re maintained and the quality of build. I recommend the 9.1s but i just cant recommend the Chinese built ones due to this, but if you just want new speakers at this price, then get them.

    Thanks 🙂

20 years since launch and the Wharfedale Diamond 9 series remain seriously good value. We’re rather lucky that there are still some around in the UK at least. I purchased the 9.1’s as an upgrade for the back surround speakers in my home cinema system having added a 9 CS centre speaker a couple of months ago (likewise great value). Very pleased with the result, in a smaller room they would make perfectly good main stereo speakers. Bargain.

Took a load of hours to run them in but they got warmer and smoother the more I played them. Surprisingly detailed vocals and highs at this price point. Bass is rich and smooth but lacks low end extension – as you would expect with speakers of this size. I have them paired with a subwoofer as I use them for music and films, but to be honest they cope very well on their own with the majority of genres, lacking only when your music dips below 50/60hz. With jazz and classical they are simply fantastic.

I can’t get over the price of these. The sound is so crystal. I’m going to buy a center speaker from the same model at some point to add to my surround sound set up. Highly recommend to anyone looking for good quality speakers with a low budget! Unbeatable. *****

Used with an ancient Armstrong 626 these sound great, but much improved with a subwoofer.
