I am over 70, use an E bike and cycle between 1500 to 2000 miles a year. I use Garmin to follow routes and record my statistics: distance; heart rate etc. The 1040 replaces my 1030 plus, which I loved. Though the 1040 does all the 1030 did, the new software upgrade means the interface is completely different and far more intuitive than the old one. In other words it is easier to use. For the professional cyclist there are training aids which I do not use so can not comment on. Importantly, Garmin have improved the the way to access the GPS signal, which means there is less chance of losing it. Admittedly, when using all the features, which I tend to do, you reduce battery life. That said, based on my recent cycling, you should get 12 hours plus, and many more hours if you pair down what you’re using. Quite frankly, the Garmin 1040 is brilliant.
