Really good game, I’m in the middle of the campaign at the moment which I’m really enjoying. But 3 nights a week me and 3 others play online which is so much fun.

Call of Duty has a very simple job. Bring out good maps, a clever and enjoyable campaign, and an array of intriguing and creative weapons. Because of the already near-watertight gameplay loop of shooting, running, and shooting some more, Call of Duty needs only to achieve those bare minimum requirements to be a solid game.
So when it decides to be extra lazy, or extra careless, it stands out a lot more. This one takes place in WWII supposedly, but you’d never know it to see all the different weapon attachments that absolutely did not exist in those days. Slapping 10 attachments on a standard issue service rifle not only sounds goofy, it also looks ridiculous. If you can manage to be immersed in this setting, you have a remarkable ability to detach yourself from reality.
As if that weren’t already bad enough, the maps are almost entirely hit and miss. For every good map, there are two bad ones. That’s not a great leap forwards in my book. Modes are barebones, and the ingenuity that saw so many staples be added to the mode pool these last ten years… it’s just not there. A hard point that moves constantly is a far cry from the innovations of gun game, and kill confirmed.
Zombies… it’s the same as always. You have done this before. There is nothing new here. Creative looking map, but little else.
So that leaves us with a campaign full of tired stereotypical shells with 1 note personalities. When you consider the story of Cold War, this is extremely disappointing. I mean, you’re meant to be tracking down Hitler’s replacement… how did you make this so dull?
So that leaves us with gameplay. It’s fine. It doesn’t break the mould, but it’s fine. Weapon sounds are pretty good and chunky. I’m really scraping the barrel to find positives here, but that’s all I can do. This is a lazy effort. It just about functions as a playable Call of Duty game, but no more so than WWII, and that was such a mess.
If you really want it, there is fun to be had. If you want the same multiplayer, but a better campaign, get Cold War. If you want better multiplayer with a better campaign, but for more money, get Modern Warfare II.
