This is my first sat nav, and I must say it is basically an introductory level sat nav. The build quality is strong and lightweight and the graphics are clear, the voices are a bit robotic (expected) and pronunciation isn’t always precise- eg” Clough” is pronounced “Clow”, but I can live with this. Setting up is easy and straight forward and you don’t need to be a tech wiz like with most tech gadgets.

Navigation through the different options and settings menu’ is straightforward and not complicated. the lane assist is really good especially if your on a stretch of road / motorway you don’t use often.

The downsides of this product is that you can’t just put in a postcode without a house number, which is a bit of annoyance, if like me your going fishing, and you type in on the sat nav the name of the reservoir and it isn’t listed, you then have to go online find the town the reservoir is in or postcode (type any house number) and then type that into sat nav and away you go… Hopefully.
Another thing I found annoying is it doesn’t recognise traffic jams or traffic lights, so you could be stopped at a red light and you’ll hear
” Turn Right Onto (name of road) Road “. this goes on a few times until you can turn right/left.

Apart from the niggles above I still like this product and would be lost without it. (no pun intended).

Bought this to replace an old Navman which you have to pay for map updates. Got this one in the sale so it was almost the same price as updating my maps! On opening the box, there are not instructions on what to do to get started except about how to mount the GPS and safety information. Found a PDF manual online which was great. The first thing you need to do is go to http://www.garminexpress.com and install the program on your computer. This is what updates the satnav. Tip – I found there was 1 update to the maps but failed to download after trying about 6/7 times. Then I turned off my firewall and I was able to complete the download and update (it did take 3 hours but our connection is very slow average of 220 kb/s!). Haven’t used it out on the road just yet but had a play with it. Seems very intuitive to use and all the menu items seem logical. So far very pleased.

After years of the same Tom Tom Sat Nav I decided I needed a new one so after lots of searching and YouTube comparisons (as you do!!) I decided on this one. I’m really impressed with it and glad I chose it.

One surprise I didn’t find mentioned at the time of purchase was the fact that it doesn’t make a noise to tell you when you’re over the speed limit… the speed sign on the screen flashes red but there’s no audible sound. I now know this is common with some Garmin models but it is still something I would have liked to have known at the time.

Nevertheless I still love this sat Nav and I’ve found being able to hunt on the map and select a spot manually to save as a favourite very helpful being a football coach travelling to loads of fields with no real postcodes. Street names is a helpful feature and the menus are very easy to navigate too. I also found the ability to rename favourites very handy for the same reason as above although I’m assuming that’s a common feature nowadays.

Another quick point is the fact that you have to set something as a via point if you wanted to avoid a certain road on a journey. For example, if I wanted to avoid a narrow road I know isn’t an easy drive even though the Sat Nav is recommending it I’d have to set something on the route that I’d like to take as a via point so it’s follows that path. This is all very easily done though and the option in the settings to simulate your route at home helps here too!!

Also worth noting the estimated journey time seems to assume you will be traveling at the speed limit constantly without stopping very often… Google is much more accurate here.

I have mainly mentioned things I would have liked to have known before purchase but there are many more good points to this sat nav that have been mentioned in other reviews and, knowing what I know now, I would still choose this sat Nav if I was given the choice again. 6+ months in… yet to steer us wrong or disappoint!!!
