There’s not much I can say about this that hasn’t been said already so I’ll keep this brief. I love this camera – small yet feature-packed, ideal for travelling and feels quite weighty and solidly built in the hand. The lens is great having good low light performance and a decent zoom range. I have a full frame DSLR (an aging Canon 6D) which now only gets brought out for special occasions since this camera does everything almost as well. It’s not quite as good at focussing in very low light but I can forgive it for that. I’ve attached a few photos taken on a walking trip in Spain on the camera’s first proper outing last year to illustrate some of it’s capabilites.

Image quality excellent and the fast lens makes it very effective in low light. Battery life poor and the price of Canon spare batteries very high. I returned the camera because of a large sensor spot – after a week or so of use that’s not good. Sad to see it go but on a fixed lens camera sensor spots are bad new news.

Great pocket camera for nebies or Pro’s, I have a G7 X MKII as well and the adition of the pop up viewfinder and extra zoom range make the G5 X MKII a great upgrade making the new camera a greatvstep up.

Over many years, I’ve carried a high-end Canon compact as a second camera to my DSLR; this one – my latest is simply the best compared to my previous Powershot S90, S95, and G15 models. It has everything they had and more – the bigger sensor, stunning front control ring, 4k video, and, best of all, the relatively small size compared to the G15. So, a near-perfect ‘do anything’ compact with picture quality just a little behind the DSLR. I have yet to find in use that it was sometimes slightly slow to focus; in fact, it makes a fantastic small discreet ‘street photography’ camera. Like the previous G15, the lens is stunning with its high speed throughout the focal length range, so there are times when I want to avoid taking the bigger (Nikon) camera! The only issue (as would be expected) of a powerful compact like this is its poor battery performance. I got over this extremely successfully using several very reasonably priced (compared to the expensive Canon originals) Powerextra NB13L batteries and their super two-at-a-time chargers, so it’s a perfect setup. Also, the battery can be charged in situ using my Anker 523 PD power pack and USB-C lead, which is brilliant when on holiday! For video shooting, I don’t miss the lack of a microphone socket as I sound record using a Rode mic on my ZOOM Hn1 recorder – with much more fine control that way, and then sync the recordings in Logic Pro.

The Gx5 mark ii is not perfect but it turns on fast, easy to use & is fun. It gives great photo output. Its very good with low light & difficult conditions. It is now my go too camera. As a walk around camera you will miss nothing. The viewfinder in bright light is exceptional. Used it India in last two weeks photographing paraglide. No bigger praise than that

This is a great compact camera offering a 5x zoom lens, screen or pop-up viewfinder, manual and auto settings, and a range of photo formats (including RAW and cRAW). RAW photos (CR3) are great, very impressive for the 1″ sensor. Video (with sound) is also very good – about 30 minutes/session at middle settings of Full High definitiion (1920×1080) 25fps. The camera is a very good pocketable option for situations when using a DSLR may be less optimal. Only thing I’ve found to be careful about when taking photographs is inadvertently touching the rear dial (when looking through the viewfinder) and changing a setting. On several occasions I have unwittingly changed single one shot shooting to either continuous or a self-timer setting.

This is one of my favourite cameras I’ve owned. Having switched from a full frame Nikon to this due to not using a big bulky SLR, I’ve ended up carrying this everywhere and taking some great photos. The controls are excellent, quick menu is on the spot with the digital shortcuts, settings very easily and swiftly accessible and the image quality is superb. I’ve used it for photography, holidays and general family photos. The only downside is there is some dust entering the inner lens, which seems to be a common thing with the Gfx7 as well, and impossible to clean according to YouTube videos without some disassembly. Had it for just over a year and would recommend to anyone even with the dust issue. Tip: read the manual, I could do everything I’m used to in a full frame slr with the functions in this thing.
